4 Days In The Italian Riviera & French Côte d’Azur

Italy is the country that captures my heart every time I visit. From its vibrant cities to the food and culture. While eating our daily gelato, road took us to South of France where discovering new cities continued to be my favourite thing to do! Here are some of our memories.

GENOA

Thanks to its rich history, Genoa offers you historical sights, impressive monuments and all the wonderful flavors of the local cuisine. It’s known as Christopher Columbus’ birthplace and one of the most important ports in Mediterranean.

ENJOY LOCAL CUISINE

While in Genova explore different types of focaccia, discover the authentic Pesto Genovese and enjoy gelaterias hidden in narrow alleyways. We got a recommendation to visit a restaurant called Cavour Modo 21 known for their World champion Pesto Genovese. As it gets really crowdy at dinner time we didn’t get a chance to try it out. Just 5 minutes walk away at Porto Antico we found Molo Modo 21 that serves a wide variety of delicious pasta dishes and pizzas. We had focaccia with pesto and cheese for the appetizer and for the main I recommend their homemade pasta with Pesto Genovese. We ordered gnocchi and their most famous – trofie. Grab some local wine as well!

FEEL THE CITY

Take a walk along Via Garibaldi and just admire this UNESCO World Heritage Site street. In the main square of Genoa you can find Piazza De Ferrari that is located in the heart of the city. There you will find the fountain standing in the middle of the square.
You can also visit house of Christopher Columbus and admire the most famous cathedral in the city – Duomo di Genoa, Cattedrale di San Lorenzo.

For more sightseeing, Piazza Della Vittoria is worth the visit. And for some shopping spree take a long walk Via XX Settembre. It is the main street of Genoa and it has everything you could wish for – from small boutiques to big brands.

If you have extra time, Acquario di Genova is the place. You can enjoy a variety of marine life including an Arctic section.

SANREMO

Sanremo is a very popular tourist destination on the coast of the Italian Riviera. Every year it hosts numerous cultural events such as Sanremo Music Festival. The city offers many places to spend your time, have lunch or just grab a cocktail and enjoy the city vibe.

MONACO

The second-smallest and the most luxurious country in the world take your breath away the minute you cross the border. Located on the French coastline, Monte Carlo, the capital is famous for having the Grand Prix race through its streets and is full of luxurious hotels, big brands shops, fine-dining restaurants, and a world-famous casino. Visiting Monaco you are surrounded by the harbor full of yachts and its streets full of supercars. The city has a lot of history and beautiful architecture and walking around I can say Grace Kelly’s spirit is felt everywhere. It is a fantastic place to explore on foot as its total area is just 2 square kilometers. The fact that Monaco is not exactly cheap, is one that should be well known, but it convinced us with its magic and different kind of ‘Vivre la vie’ there.

NICE

Right after we started our panoramic ride on the French Côte d’Azur I fell in love. I loved the colors and feeling about exploring a new country. While we only had a day to visit Nice, it was enough time to get a taste of his famous town. And talking about taste … we started our Nice experience with lunch in the Old Town of Nice. Brasserie Félix Faure surprised us with amazing glass of rosé and red wine. We ordered Raviolis frais niçois – It’s their specialty – and Tartare de boeuf. Lunch at the Félix Faure was one of my favorite dining experiences in France.

For the sweeter side of Nice stop by LAC Chocolatier. Choose from a wide variety of Macarons or chocolate and enjoy them while exploring the city and walk along the streets of Old Town up to Castle Hill. It’s the highest point in Nice and the view is breathtaking. It’s one of the best spots to get a beautiful panorama of the city below, especially at golden hour.

CANNES

We have saved Cannes for the last on our trip. When you think Cannes, you think about the famous Annual Film Festival. Since it’s unlikely that you are there at the same time as famous people, you can still visit the site of the world-famous spectacle, from the outside. Also, the red carpet in front of the Palais des Festivals can be seen and it’s a very popular photo spot. After, you can spend your time on a beach as Cannes offers beautiful spots to enjoy the summer breeze. Walking down the shopping street can also fill time once you’ve already seen impressive sailing yachts in the harbor.
